Purpose: Previously known as BUILD and TIGER, the RAISE grant program is for surface transportation infrastructure projects that address safety, environmental sustainability, quality of life, mobility and connectivity, economic competitiveness, state of good repair, partnership and collaboration, and innovation. For RAISE, “surface transportation project” includes roads, bridges, rail, port infrastructure, intermodal projects, and culverts.

With a minimum award of $1 million in rural areas, RAISE is aimed at projects that have a significant local or regional impact. There is no minimum for planning grants in the most recent NOFO.

Eligible Expenditures:
Capital and Planning projects. (for more detail see Raise Grant NOFO above)

Eligible Applicants:
State, local, Tribal, and U.S. territories’ governments, including transit agencies, port authorities, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and other political subdivisions.
