Two Alaskan communities have been awarded USDA Farm to School grants for 2026!
The Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, Inc. (Anchorage, AK) was awarded $158,289 to strengthen regional food systems by increasing the availability of Alaskan Grown meats, dairy products, and produce for CNPs on the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands.
The Yupiit School District (Akiachak, AK) was awarded $219,107 for an implementation and partnership project, Elitnaurat natlugniritut naunranek nertuameng (Students growing strong eating plants/vegetables), to solve acritical food security challenges in remote Alaska: with no roads connecting village schools to major supply hubs, fresh produce frequently freezes and spoils on unheated runways while awaiting postal delivery.
