Climate Pollution Reduction Grant
Opportunity for Alaska
The EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program funds state and tribal planning grants to develop two types of plans over the next two years: a priority plan (PCAP) due spring 2024 and a comprehensive plan (CCAP) due in late 2025. These plans will identify programs, policies, and projects (i.e., measures) that reduce air pollution emissions while providing community benefits such as decreased energy costs, cleaner air, and quality jobs.
In Alaska, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is completing the state’s plans, while several tribes and tribal consortia are completing community and regional plans.
As a result of the priority plans for CPRG, Alaska has received nearly $100M in awards for a variety of projects, including:
- $61.3M for tribal projects that build capacity for clean microgrids, local composting, and home energy efficiency.
- $38.6M for the Accelerating Clean Energy Savings in Alaska’s Coastal Communities (ACES-AK) program to fund heat pump installations along Alaska’s south coast from Ketchikan to Kodiak, saving homeowners money and reducing community fuel dependence.
For more information about the ACES-AK program, please see the Alaska Heat Smart website.
Alaska’s CPRG Planning
In March 2024, the Alaska Municipal League worked for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to complete the Alaska Priority Sustainable Energy Action Plan (PSEAP), serving as Alaska’s PCAP for the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program. Measures identified in this plan are GHG reduction measures that help Alaska communities achieve energy cost reductions, quality of life, and energy independence.
See the Alaska Priority Sustainable Energy Action Plan here:
The planning team for Alaska’s CPRG program is looking engage community leaders, technical experts, and industry with the comprehensive sustainable energy action plan development. This process will produce an updated, final and comprehensive Alaska Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Alaska by November 2025. Please contact Griffin Plush with the Alaska Municipal League to learn how to engage with this planning process.
Many tribal governments and consortia around Alaska have received funding to complete community and regional PCAPs under CPRG, as well. The ANTHC Rural Energy Program has been completing PCAPs for all tribal communities not already served by another CPRG planning grant.
